.out with the old?.

we were in our previous home for 4 years. the latter half of that time i focused on decorating and making it our own. now we've up and moved and are renting. every home has its own personality and quirks and nooks. and i have already spent my cold hard cash on pillows + drapes + side tables + lamps, etc for previous home.
so do i use it all again in The Rental b/c i already have it? i almost hate not to.
my favorite pillows were lucky in that they had a spot waiting for them. this is a very preliminary photo.
my green office desk is going become a bar. i'm going to get the racks to hang wine glasses underneath with some lighting of some sort under there. just add pretty glasses + tray + flowers + lamps + liquor. Tuna thinks it is weird b/c it is a desk but anyway. this little area is just off of the living room.

my biggest dilemma right now is whether to use these silk eggplant drapes that worked so perfectly in my moroccan inspired luxe dark and glorious previous bedroom.
The Rental has almond color walls + white trim + light beige carpet in both bedrooms. eeeeek. since this bedroom was so glam and girly, i want the new master to be traditional, simple, and masculine. sooo probably not use eggplant drapes right? leaving the guest bedroom which is really also going to be my dressing room. i have an old wood chest & desk. so picture eggplant drapes, a gray monogrammed duvet, with fun pillows.
pillows 1, 2, 3
i dont know. i'm basically brainstorming on the blog. sorry for the crappy "mood board". i am supposed to get my laptop back today.

how do you feel about recycle, reuse? even if it maybe isn't exactly what you want...i keep telling myself this is a rental. not long term. but that doesn't mean i want it to be any less aesthetically pleasing.

I cannot really answer this. I am a hoarder. I have stuff stored in our attic that is for "our next house." Not normal. I think it takes a little while living somewhere to figure out what works in the space. I say take your time and The Rental will be homey before you know it.

i think using your old stuff would be great. and then after you live in the new rental, you can always figure out what you want to make it better/more homey.

i think if you buy new stuff for rental, just make sure it is something that you would definitely want in your future house someday. i am in the same position now...want new things for our rental but using our old stuff. it may not be exactly what i want, but as long as i'm figuring out exactly what i want i just have to be patient and save dollars :)

and keep those eggplant curtains. they are gorgeous!

"My dressing room", you whore, so jealous! I think most girls will always and forever be revamping. I keep saying I'm done with my place, and yet now I'm obsessing over all kinds of fixes. My bedroom stuff is cream and this deep green teal that is IMPOSSIBLE to match anything with. I love the color but it is so unique we've made nearly everything that goes with the bedding - body pillow cover, nightstand, etc. So I get rid of everything or keep it forever.

I like the octopus pillow - you have to incorporate it no matter what you do.

i like where you're going with everything! i think the desk will look great as a bar once it's all put together

For the eggplant drapes...what if you made the wall behind the desk/bar a wall of lush curtains? Your pillows would tie in, and the green desk/bar would really POP! Add some pretty glassware and a fun tray, and you have yourself a pretty rad focal point. Why waste such pretty draperies on the guest room?

ditto on rachel's octopus pillow comment.
